About this calculator
What is gold nisab?
Nisab is the minimum qualifying amount of gold before zakat becomes obligatory under the selected method.
Why does gold purity matter?
22K, 21K, and 18K gold contain less pure gold than 24K gold, so the calculator converts them into a pure-gold equivalent before checking nisab or calculating zakat.
What is the zakat rate?
The configured default is 2.5%, which is equivalent to dividing qualifying wealth by 40.
When is zakat due?
Zakat is generally considered due after one complete lunar year of ownership for qualifying gold wealth, subject to the configured methodology and scholarly guidance.
Can zakat be paid in cash?
Yes. The calculator provides a cash equivalent based on the gold rate you enter, which many people use to pay zakat in money rather than in physical gold.
Frequently Asked Questions
What gold price should I enter?
Enter a current per-gram market rate. Select “24K pure gold” if it is the pure-gold rate, or “selected gold purity” if the rate already corresponds to the karat selected.
Can I calculate zakat on 22K jewellery?
Yes. Select 22K and the calculator will convert the jewellery weight into its pure-gold equivalent before comparing it with the configured nisab.
Can zakat be paid in cash?
Cash payment is accepted in many scholarly approaches. This tool shows both the estimated pure-gold amount and its estimated cash equivalent. Seek qualified guidance when needed.
What happens if my gold is below nisab?
The calculator will show that the configured nisab has not been reached and will display zero as the estimated amount currently due.
What if one lunar year has not passed?
The result will be shown as an informational planning estimate and will not be labelled as currently due.
Is zakat due on jewellery used personally?
Scholarly opinions differ concerning personal-use jewellery. Consult a qualified Islamic scholar familiar with your circumstances and school of jurisprudence.
Does this calculator give a religious ruling?
No. It provides a general estimate based on a configured nisab and common calculation method; it does not provide a personal fatwa or definitive ruling.
